#5 XB-70 Valkyrie
The Valkyrie was invented in the 1950’s in order to intercept and avoid other jet fighters and flies at maximum speeds of 1,890 miles per hour or 3.05 Mach. The jet was produced by North American aviation for United States Air Force and is powered by 6 General Electric YJ93-GE-3 afterburning turbojet machines. It is a nuclear bomber jet which plays a significant role in the history as the fastest bombers in the world.
#4 Mig-25
To be one among the fastest military aircraft, Mig-25 or Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25 is supersonic interceptor which was engineered by Soviet Union’s Mikoyan-Gurevich. It can travel at a pace of 3.2 Mach and is really pragmatic in functioning at high altitude above 80,000 feet. NATO called it the “Foxbat” and is made powerful with high-tech radar, four missiles, two turbo-jet engines, and uses titanium as its primary material.
#3 SR-71 Blackbird
SR-71 Blackbird served the US Air Force from 1964 to 1998 which was an advanced, long-range, ach 3+ strategic manned military aircraft. It was developed as a black project by Lockheed Corporation, USA and has been nick named as “Blackbird” or “Habu”. With an amazing capability to withstand heat, it accelerates at a speed of 3.5 Mach at an altitude as high as 100,000 feet and when faced with missiles, its system would merely accelerate and elude the missile.
#2 NASA X-15
Operated by United States Air Force and NASA, X-15 was a rocket powered aircraft. With a top speed of 6.72 Mach it holds the official world record for the fastest speed ever reached by a manned aircraft. X-15 was manufactured by North American Aviation which was used from 8 June 1959 till December 1970. The engine used ammonia and liquid oxygen for propellant and hydrogen peroxide to drive the high-speed turbo pump that delivered fuel to the engine accompanied by a thick wedge tail for stability at hypersonic speeds.
#1 NASA X-43 A
Part of NASA’s hyper-X program, X-43 A is an unmanned experimental hypersonic aircraft. The X-43 is the fastest plane on record with a speed of 9.8 Mach and is fuelled by hydrogen. It does not require oxygen to keep the engine going and was designed to test a range of features concerning hypersonic flight.
